5 Tips to Improve Your Next Virtual Presentation

From an event producer who’s tech checked over 300 speakers

While there are a lot of similarities between speaking or presenting at an in-person event and a virtual one, there are a few nuances that can help you stand out. Unlike in-person events, in the virtual world, you’re responsible for your own audio and video set-up and you might need to share your own slides.

Over the last year as a virtual event producer, I’ve worked with hundreds of speakers at virtual events, including almost 100 speakers for one event alone. Time and time again, I found myself giving the same advice to helping speakers sound and look as good as they do in-person and giving them some tips on how to make the most of the virtual set-up.

These are my top five tips for speakers or presenters that you can apply to your next virtual event, meeting, or video call:

1. Invest in an external microphone.

Audio is the most important element of your presentation. If your audience can’t hear you clearly, it won’t even matter how great your content is.
