What I’m Reading: June 2018
Summer rolls in and it seems like life and work slow down for a minute. You have more time in the sunshine and ideally more time for reading.
June was just the opposite for me as I had a month of moving, family events, traveling for work, and a much needed vacation. As I hopped around physically from city to city, my brain seemed to follow. I jumped around between five different books this month, moving from young adult to mysteries to a book about the “princess culture” and it’s impact on young girls.
As the month came to a close, I found I only finished one of the stack of books but it did not disappoint. Bonus of being back home this month: I rediscovered my love for public libraries.
Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink
Back in the US for a wedding, I took a trip to my local library and found this book that has been on my list forever. As a hardback, Five Days at Memorial is pretty intimidating, coming in at around 500 pages but I was determined to get through it, 1) because the reviews had been great and 2) library books have due dates so challenge accepted.
Filled with heart wrenching stories about a New Orleans hospital that went into crisis mode during Hurricane Katrina, this book makes you think about the crossover between ethics and medicine. Fink tries to piece…
